THE RUSTY SCOTT QUARTET PRESENTS
BATTLE OF THE SAXES
with BILL PIERCE and GORDON BEADLE - Wednesday Oct 14, 2009 7:30PM
“As ‘Short Bread’ attests quite eloquently, Scott is well on his way†– Bob Young, Boston Herald
Back by Popular demand, The Rusty Scott Quartet returns to The Regattabar to present "Battle of the Saxes", pitting the quartet’s own Tim Mayer against the gritty sound of Gordon Beadle (Roomful of Blues, Duke Robillard) and the sophistication of renowned tenor man Bill Pierce (Art Blakey, Tony Williams). Last Spring’s show was received with a Standing Ovation! A fun time is guaranteed for all!
Pianist Rusty Scott leads the group as it pays tribute to the great tenor battles of yesteryear, trading eights and fours over breakneck tempos. Not just a jazz concert but a tenor sax free-for-all, the show features the music of Eddie “Lockjaw†Davis, Johnny Griffin, Sonny Stitt, and Gene Ammons, as well as original compositions by the quartet. The rhythm section features the incomparable Keala Kaumeheiwa on bass and Dave Brophy on drums.
Doors open at 7:00PM.
Next Year!
-
August 12, 2009
Although things could change, it's looking like we won't be producing the Newton Jazz Fest this year due to economic circumstances.
But keep your eyes open as plans are already in the works for 2010 so it should be a nice, big event with the area's hottest jazz.
If you're interested in volunteering, feel free to drop me a line. it takes a lot more than one person to make a great event happen!
Thank you for your interest and support and we'll see you soon!
